Still plugging away. Let’s see:
New compositions. Nothing in the pipeline at the moment.
New arrangements. A couple of things are in progress, both for the Terre Haute Symphony’s upcoming Park Concert on September 14 (I think that’s the date, but I’m too lazy to get up and confirm it).
First, a big-band style arrangement of a song from 1921 called “I’m Gonna Float My Boat Right Back To Terre Haute” by fellow Hautian Malcom Scott (1900-1994). Apparently it was designated Terre Haute’s official song shortly after it was written. How is it possible that I’ve lived in Terre Haute for 19 years and have never heard of this song before?
Also an arrangement of “Shall We Gather By the River.” At this point, I’ve only thought about it; nothing is written down. I should have the other one done by the end of the week, then will turn to the second one.
At some point, I need to finish my arrangement of “Deep River.” Actually, I thought I had already done it, but it seems that I only did a pencil draft score, which I never got around to putting into Finale. Strange, I thought I had!
New publications. For a lot of the summer, I’ve been working on getting various pieces polished up and ready to publish. Several are nearly ready to go to the printer, including:
- Between Spring And Summer for saxophone quartet.
- Euphoria for trombone, euphonium, and piano (I’m thinking about changing the title again).
- Concerto Piccolo for piccolo and orchestra.
- Leon Jessel’s Parade of the Wooden Soldiers (a new edition).
- Rejoice and be Merry (Christmas album for voice and piano)
Miscellaneous other projects. Still working on my new websites. Naturally it’s taking longer than I thought.
I have to write program notes for the Terre Haute Symphony and Carmel Symphony. These are started, but I haven’t gotten very far yet.
I’m working on the Concerto Project again. I’m determined to get as much done as I can by the end of the summer. (And I need to do a separate blog entry on this soon.)
Something I haven’t started yet, but need to, is going back to the Basic Scoring textbook. I have some things in mind that I want to add, some things I want to change. Yikes! Only about six or seven weeks before the semester starts.
